FORGERY CHARGES

TWO YEARS’ PROBATION His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy, in the Supremo Court yesterday afternoon, passed sentence on Kenneth Johnson Russell on two charges of forgery, to which accused had pleaded guilty in the Police Court. Russell was represented by Mr A. G. Neill, who said that accused was 20 years of age, and had been unfortunate in experiencing a period in which it was difficult for young men to find and to keep work. Ho had lately done a good deal of Sunday school work. He had not been in trouble before, and Mr Neill submitted that the case would be met ,by a term of probation. His Honour said that ho was persuaded mainly by the accused’s age to release him on probation instead of sentencing him to a term of .imprison-

ment. He would be admitted to two years’ probation. Special conditions were that Russell should make restitution of £ls, the amount which had been obtained as the result of the forgeries, and pay the costs of the prosecution.
