STANLEY M'KAY'S GAIETIES

POPULARITY MAINTAINED Another big audience last night enjoyed the programme provided by the Stanley M'Kay Gaieties Company which is nearing the end of its first week in His Majesty’s Theatre. The offering was again the revue ‘A Fantasy in Gold,’ and practically every item was warmly applauded. There is a good deal of artistry apparent in this production, the items which stand out more vividly in that respect including Les Diamondos, whose posing in a series of living statues and movements in acrobatic acts were graceful and altogether pleasing, and Heather Wright, the little New Zealand contortionist who is remarkably clever. Then there is James, “ the Gay Deceiver,” whose facility in producing timepieces of all descriptions apparently from nowhere brands him as a menace to the watchmaking trade. Elvy Ferguson’s violin solos were quite pleasing also, despite the back-stage accompaniment of carpenters’ hammers. The Hilo Duo (piano-accordion and saxophone) again “ brought down the bouse.” Joe Lawman, the chief comedian, was much in evidence throughout the whole performance. His comedy is of the rough and ready type and of a vintage which the older patrons of vaudeville will remember well. The show altogether is well produced. There will he a complete change of programme commencing with a special gift matinee on Saturday, when a number of valuable gifts will be distributed.
