SWIMMING
PRESS-POLICE CARNIVAL The annual Press-Police .carnival was staged at the Municipal Baths last night by the Kiwi Club, the fields being the largest for some years and the swimming of a higher standard than previously. Competition was keen, the Police team winning the relay alter an. exciting race, and the Press the water polo match by 4 goals to 2. In addition, the Kiwi A-St. Clair A senior competition game was played, and resulted in a win for Kiwi by 8 goals to 0.
Several very interesting demonstrations were given by club and local, champions during the evening, and Mr James Stewart, of London, a holder of the Royal Life Saving Society’s diplomas, gave a fine display of fancy swimming, which was much appreciated. New Zealand Empire Games representatives—Miss 1. Purdie (Kiwi) and Miss G. Rix (Dunedin)—noth gave displays. Miss Purdie swam 100yds at a good clip, giving those present an indication of her fine style, and Miss Rix gave an exhibition of diving that was of a hgh standard. D. Freeman (the Otago men’s diving champion) gave a spectacular diving exhibition, and displays of swimming were given by Misses A. Brown, E. Goldthorpe, C. Garvin, W. Dunn, M. Goldthorpe, E. Abernethy, and D. Pope. Results:—
