CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOUR
EIGHTH ANNUAL MEETING One hundred and ten delegates attended the eighth annual meeting of the Otago Union held in the Northeast Valley Baptist Church on Monday evening. On behalf of the local society the Rev. J. K. Reid extended a very eoadial welcome to all present. The annual report showed that the various rallies and leaders’ meetings held during the year had been well attended. Two hundred young people were present at the sixth convention held at Mosgiel at Easter. Statistics showed that in Otago there were 52 societies, with a membership of 925. The financial statement read by the treasurer revealed that at the close of the year the union account showed a credit of £9 18s, and the convention reserve account a credit of £25 14s. The secretary and treasurer were complimented upon the able manner in which they had carried out their duties during the year. _ The retiring president, the Rev C. 6. H. Bycroft, in a few _ well-chosen words, thanked the Executive Committee and the endeayourers for their loyal support during his presidential year, and then extended the right hand of fellowship to the incoming president, the Rev. A. W. Armstrong, calling upon him to sign his name in the president s Bible. On behalf of the 'union, Mr Armstrong presented Mr Bycroft with a book as a token of the love and esteem of the endeavourers, while Miss Stanton asked Mrs Bycroft to accept a posy of flowers. A duet was rendered by members of the local society, after
which Mr Armstrong gave his presidential address, entitled ‘ Watchfulness.’ The election of officers resulted as fol< lows;—President designate j Mr E. P, Wilkinson; vice-presidents—Pastor E. P. Aderman, Pastor John P. Miller,' Rev. J. K. Reid, Pastor J. Sands, Me J. H. Shilcock, and the Rev. H. R. Turner; secretary, Miss_ Jean F. Mil- 1 ler; treasurer, Mr David ;M. : Paulin; superintendents of departments—junior, Mr George Munro; intermediate, Mr Ivan Chivers; senior, Mr A. S. Hancock; C.E.E. exam., Mr G. E. James. The Chairman thanked the local society for its hospitality, and Mr George Munro moved a vote of thanks to the retiring executive. The , gathering closed by the new executive officers standing while the Rex. C. G. H. By* croft led in a dedicatory prayer.
