FAIR AND MILDER The following weather forecast wa« issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the south-, erii districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— A fairly intense anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and extends over the Dominion. Forecast;.Light to moderate andi variable winds, with south-westerly predominating. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, with milder day, but cold night temperatures, and with some morning frosts and fogs. Considerable, but decreasing, southerly swell. MILD, BUT DULL. A general improvement in conditions became apparent on Saturday afternoon after a heavy snowfall had given place to rain, the evening being fine and! considerably milder, though 2deg of frost were recorded at the Gardens. Yesterday was overcast, but fine in the main, occasional light showers making their appearance, followed by another mild evening. This morning broke fine, but the sky was heavily overcast and a cool south-westerly breeze was in evidence. The respective maximum and minimum temperature readings at noon, when barometric pressure was rising at 30.05 in, were 52deg and: 48.5 deg, while those ewer periods of 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday were 41.1 deg and 33.2 deg and 50deg and 44.9 deg.
