[By St. Clair.] The bracketed pair, Kuini and Golden. Eagle (544-595); Franz Derby (245468), Polly Pan’ (223-396)) Guy- Hugo (144-238), and Great Admiral (136198) were the best backedm the Introductory Handicap. Parrish'Chimes and Polly Pan failed-to strike their gait, and Reward led Lady, Sonoma and Sister Mary over the first half-mile. Then Lady Sonoma took charge, and led into the last lap from Great Admiral, Sister Mary, and Mataunga. There was no change racing along the back, and Lady Sonoma was joined by Great Admiral entering the run home, being closely followed by Mataunga and Sister Mary. Great Admiral beat Lady Sonoma home by a length, with Golden Eagle (who finished fast after beginning slowly) two lengths away third, and Mataunga and Sister Mary next. * * * • . Ginger Jack (569-651), Sage KingHarlequin bracket (566-936),, Aide de Camp (506-723), Aircraft (440-620) and Repeat (267-512) were the ; best backed in the Advance Handicap. Sage King, Belle Grattan, and Casanova failed to strike their gait smartly, and Credit Funds led Full Hand and Esplendor over the first furlong. Then Esplendor ran up into second place.. Credit Funds and Esplendor were in charge entering the last lap from Full Hand, Sky Wink, and Harlequin. At the far turn Esplendor Was just in front of Credit Funds, with Aide .de Camp, Sky Wink, and Full Hand next. Then Full Hand and Harlequin collided and were pulled up. Aide de Camp just headed Esplendor turning for home, and at the distance drew away to win by two lengths from Sky Wink, with a similar distance’ toGinger Jack. Lucky Jack lost several lengths at the start, and Gunfire showed the way to ■ Llewellyn’s Pride, Gallant Knight, Pot Luck, And Rocks' Ahead. Passing : the stand the first time (half-mile) Gunfire was racing two lengths clear of Llewellyn’s Pride, with Pot Luck and Gallant Knight racing together next just in front of Rocks Ahead and Reporter. In the next round Graham Direct ran up very fast along the back, and was following Gunfire entering the last lap with Llewellyn’s Pride, Gallant'Knight, Pot Luck, and Rocks Ahead next. At the far turn Graham Direct was beaten, and Gunfire led the favourite. and Llewellyn’s Pride' into the straight. Before reaching the distance Reporter drew out and won well by a length from Rocks Ahead, who finished very fast and heat Pot Luck by a similar distance.. Gallant Knight and King’s Warrior next

U. Scott (1,595-1,051), who was made a hot favourite for the Queen Mary Handicap, lost his chance by failing to go away well, losing about 60yds. King’s Play (651-786), Parisienne (519868),. and Sea Gift (300-620) were, the next fancied. Encounter led Ironside, Red Flush, and Navy Blue over the first half-mile. Then the favbuirte, showing a great dash of speed, ran to the front and led Encounter' and Ironside, with (Red Flush and Navy-Blue, into the second lap. King’s Play improved his position in the next circuity and entering the final lap U. Scott was a length in front of King’s; Play, with Parisienne next. U. Scott was done with two furlongs from home,; and; King’s Play looked a sure winner turning for home, but Parisienne, finishing very strongly, just got up to beat him by a head. Encounter was over 10 lengths’ away third, with another gap to . Sea Gift, Happy Knight, and U. Scott.

Bittersweet (1,699-1,029), Waikato Prince (350-648), Flotsam (258-578), Garner (196-368), and Nicoya (138-266) were the best backed for the Stewards’ Handicap. Bittersweet and Flotsam broke at the start, but the favourite settled down quickest, and led Raclaim and Flotsam over'the first .half-mile. Then Flotsam broke again. At the end bf the first lap King’s, Guard was just in front of Fifa. with the favourite. Raclaim, and Tough Guy next. There was no change racing along the back, and 1 King’s Guard led round the far turn from Bittersweet and Fifa. King’s Guard was first into the straight and appeared to be winning comfortably, when he broke about 30yds from the post, and Bittersweet tan to within a neck of him._ Nicoya was another neck away third, well clear of Raclaim, Waikato Prince, and Wahnooka-

Frisco Boy (913-887), Ginger Jack (779-805), Blair Athol (631-845). Play On (308-656), and Kibo (197-370) were the best backed for the Trial Handicap. Ginger Jack stood on his. mark, and Play On led Sage King and the favourite "led all the way to the home turn. Then Giro made a forward move and followed Play On and Frisco Bov into the straight. Frisco Boy -challenged strongly, but Play'On hung' on well and beat him by a head. Giro was two lengths away third, followed by Full Hand, Great Jewel, . and Sage ....

Then Sterling Lady ran up and displaced the favourite in third place. Entering the last lap Chenwoo|T was nerWy two lengths clear from Stealing Lady* with Iraq, Frisco Lady, and Logan’s Pride close up. Chenwood was first into the straight from Sterling and Iraq. Sterling Lady was nearly two lengths away third, followed by Chenwood, Isobel Derby, and Rongomai. * » * * Nervies Last (1,012-761), Gamble (822-692), De Soto (544-565), and New Derby (338-437) were the best backed for the International Handicap. Queen Author led Gold Tinge, Iloilo, and Do Soto over the first circuit and these four were still in charge entering the last lap. Grand Mogul fell after going three furlongs. Just after entering the last lap the clerk of the course in attempting to catch Grand Mogul was knocked off his horse, and Willow. Wave, hit the latter and fell. Queen Author led into straight from Supertax, who finished very strongly, beating Worthy Light by half a length, with Bingen Palm_ a lengths away third.
