RUGBY FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOK. Sir, —111 a letter of the 4th hist, regarding the leadership of the Otago llugby team, the writer complains about Otago losing the shield owing to the absence of a loader. Did not Otago have good leaders in the person of Laney, Vorrath, Pai'khill, and Simon, all recognised as leaders of various club teams of Dunedin? The fault lies with the selectors, who do not spend enough time studying the form of the Dunedin and country teams. They certainly would have had a team worthy to be called Otago. Miller’s Flat showed the standard of football being played in the country by defeating the runners-up in the Dunedin competition, and it would bo interesting to sec them meet the premiers. We all hope that the selectors will not make the same mistake next year by not looking past Dunedin for players—l am, etc., Not One-eyed. August 5.
