PAPAKAIO PLOUGHING MATCH

ATTENDANCE OF OVER 6,000 CLASS A TO J. NIMMO (AIREDALE) Glorious weather attracted one of the largest country gatherings recorded in North .Otago for the annual ploughing match 'at Papakaio yesterday, and it is doubtful whether so many cars have been seen at a- match of this sort in any part of the South Island Special features of the day were turning against the hand , for tractors, and a tractor ploughing race, which proved particularly interesting. But the centre of interest lay in the contest for open-cut ploughing between James Nlmmo (Airedale), who won the Royal championship at Rakaia, and George Gray (Invercargill), who defeated Nimmo at Timaru last Saturday. However, Nimmo put up a remarkable performance to defeat Gray. In addition to tho great interest shown in the ploughing contests, there was instructional value for farmers to bo found in tho comprehensive display of agricultural implements at work. At tho conclusion, Mr Hurst (president of the committee) briefly thanked tho public for the wonderful support _accorded, and also the competitors, "those who had lent horses, the committee, and tho implement manufacturers, and donors of numerous cups and special prizes. The Ploughing Match Committee, with Mr A. C. Hurst (president) and Mr H. S.
