GARDENING CLUB
ANNUAL SOCIAL t . i The Dunedin Gardening Club held its annual social last evening in _ the Y.M.C.A. assembly hall, the president (Mr J. Passmore) occupying the chair. There was a large attendance of members, several of whom had during the afternoon carried but an attractive scheme of decoration in the room with autumn flowers and foliage.. Mr J. Hungerford, president of the Dunedin Horticultural Society, was present, and was welcomed on behalf of the club by Mr Passmore. Mr Hungerford congratulated the club on the floral display arranged by the members, which he considered was wonderful for this time of the year, when flowers were so scarce. He also paid a tribute to the work the club had done during the year. In recognition of the services they had given to the club, the president and the secretary (Mr P. Nelson) were each presented with a piece of crystal. The meeting then resolved itself into a social gathering, and after supper had been handed round an enjoyable programme of vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary items was presented, the following contributing: —• Miss Lily Shrimpton, Mr G. Kerr, Miss D. Barron, Sirs Brydon (songs), Master V. Brown (mouth organ solo), and Miss S. Bean (recitations). Miss Bessie Densem and Miss D. Johnson acted as accompanists.
