CWHHTTEE MEETING ’ ' The monthlv meeting of the Joint War Funds Committee was attended by the president (the Her. V. G. Bryan King), Mrs Stanley Miss Cara Graham, Mrs G. It. Ritchie, Messrs A. N. Haggitt, and) C. V. Smith, and the secretary (Mr E. J. G. Johnston). A letter was received from the Hospital Board thanking the society’s members for visiting soldier patients at the Wakari Hospital, and for gifts for the men. A letter was received from Matron Glynn, of the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, advising that l another soldier patient had been admitted to the institutiom. —It< was, resolved) that the name he placed on the register for attention. Several applications for assistance were received. —Following careful consideration of each case, it was resolved that the committee was unable to take action in the meantime, Mrs Ritchie and Mrs Batchelor furnished satisfactory reports for the hospital visitors. It was stated that there were 14 soldier patients at Dunedin Hospital and one at Wakari. Matron Douglass submitted a report in regard to the Red Cross Home at Montecilloi. During the month, _ she said, two patients had been admitted and) one transferred to the Public Hospital. There were now 21 men receiving treatment at the home, and all were very grateful to many friends for remembrance and for the varied gifts they had received. Patients were very pleased to receive passes from the management of the Winter Show, Marcus Show, * Wildflower,’ Otago Football Association, Boxing Association, and picture theatres. Entertainments were given at the home by Mr Brown’s party, Begg’s orchestra and concert party, and by a private _ concert party. The home had) been visited by Lady Myers (Wellington), Mrs Wynne Williams (Auckland), and Mr Humphrey Guy, secretary of the Disabled Soldiers and Sailors’ Association of Great Britain. A number of the patients were taken for a motor drive by Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Buchanan, the latter also providing tea for_ the party at her home. The committee felt that the service so willingly rendered by members of the Motor Circle of the Otago Women’s Club was beyond . praise. Mr Smeaton reported regarding an ex-soldier whoso case was under the notice of the committee. Representations were being made in certain quarters, and it was hoped that help would eventuate. —His action was approved. Miss Graham mentioned the cases of several ex-imperial men.—lt was resolved that Miss Graham he authorised) to provide the assistance that each case warranted. . Reference was made to the assistance of Mr Oxley, an ex-soldier, in connection with the patients’ vocational work. • —The secretary was asked to convey to Mr Oxley the committee’s sincerest appreciation. Following conferences at Wellington, the name of the society has been l changed to the Great War Funds Administrative Committee of the Joint Council of tho Order of St. John and
New Zealand Red Cross Society. For convenience sake tho society will be known by the short title of Joint War Funds Committee.
