PISE BOARD MEETING The quarterly meeting of the Fire Board, held last night, was attended by Messrs S. E. Crimp (chairman), E. H. Ferguson, F. Smith, J. Farquharson, and W. Pryde. The Minister of Internal Affairs notified his approval of the estimates for the current year.—Received. Superintendent M'Ehvee submitted his quarterly report. The motor and gear were in good order. The only call during the quarter was to an hotel chimney on fire. On June 2, at a social function, ex-Superintendent O. M'Donald was presented with a life member medal. The members of the brigade thanked the members of the board for their assistance, the evening being a great success. The strength of the brigade still stood at 10 members, and a new member had been proposed. •The Chairman said the proposed member would be put on three months’ probation, which was the usual course. Provision for additional hose had been made in the estimates. The chairman thanked the, local members of the board for assisting to carry out the social so successfully. Mr C. M'Ehvee has been appointed brigade secretary. The Chairman said the question of main water pressures had received considerable publicity. The superintendent would be acquainted with the position. Superintendent M'Ehvee said the brigade had not been on the high levels for the past two practices. The brigade at last two practices had used the pump. The next practice would be held on the high levels and the pressures tested. The Chairman thought there was a definite onus on the local body to give an adequate supply of water. Evidently the borough engineer had reported a "surging” in the main. A supplementary reservoir had been suggested as a remedy. Mr Ferguson said that big issues were being,raised. The Superintendent suggested that a portable pressure gauge might be obtained. The Chairman: Would that take the responsibility for pressure off the local body? The Superintendent said the pressures had been normal lately. Mr Farqnharson said the whole position was under the consideration of the council. The Chairman said that the matter would be dealt with in the superintendent’s report to next board meeting. Members of the board could accompany the brigade ‘ when tests were being taken on the high levels. The 'advisability of having brick walls erected between the three wool stores as fire breaks was discussed. " It was decided to obtain quotations for new uniforms.
