EXTENSION OF AIRLINE

AUCKLAND NOWi UNION AIRWAYS TERMINAL OFFICIAL FLIGHTS TO-INMGW Au extension of the present Union Airways service will be made to-mor-row, when Auckland will be made the northern terminal. Two flights will be made to-morrow morning, almost simultaneously, and official parties will be carried from Wellington and Palmerston North to Auckland. The passenger schedule will commence to-monrow. In Wellington at 10 a.m. the mayor of the city will perform a. christening ceremony of the air liner which will leave there, and an address will he given by the Hon. R. Semple, after which the Acting Prim© Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) will inaugurate the service. The liner will leave Wellington at 11 a.m. for Palmerston North, where she is expected to arrive at 11.45, and she will then proceed to Auckland, where an official luncheon will be tendered about noon.

The christening ceremony will be made in Palmerston North by the mayor at 9.30 a.m., after which the Hon. F. Jones will speak. The /liner will leave for the north at 10 a.m., and will proceed to New Plymouth, where she is expected to arrive at 11 o’clock. The mayor of the city will board the liner, and she will leave New Plymouth about 11.15 for Auckland, where the party will be entertained at the luncheon.

Only one liner will make the return journey, which will he commenced at 2.15 p.m. , Last week Union Airways earned their ten thousandth passenger over the Palmerston North-Dunedin route, the service having been inaugurated on January 16, 1936. As there is greater use being mad© each month of this mode of travel and transport, the New Zealand public have evidently realised over the past 18 months _the' value _and convenience of the air line, and it is only to be expected that the se«md ten thousand mark will be passed in a much shorter space of time over the intcrisland route than the first.
