PLACING OF BONNY AZURE

WAS OUR M'KINNEY THIRD ? [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 24. Many patrons of the Auckland Trotting Chib’s Meeting yesterday maintained that Our M'Kinney should have been placed third in the Liverpool Handicap instead of Bonny Azure. After tho race Press representatives communicated with the judge (Mr K. V. Sutherland), but ho said he could do nothing as it was too late. This morning the secretary of the club (Mr A. G. Mabee) said that nothing could he done. The Trotting Rules provided that _ the judge had five minutes in which to alter placings. This was not done, and so he (Mr Mahoc) gave tho order for the dividends to be paid out. Interviewed to-day, the judge said the colours were plastered with mud, making it awkward to distinguish them. Both he and the assistant timekeeper made Bonnv Azure third, and it was not till the'chairman of the Press gallery told him that Our M'Kinney was third that he had any idea the mistake might have been made. “No one is infallible,” he said, “ but conditions were exceptional, and I might have mistaken the colours in the circumstances.” DANHEVIRKE HUNT CLUB ANNUAL RACE MEETING Acceptors for the Danncvirke Hunt Club’s Annual Meeting:— ORINGI HACK HURDLES, £6O. When the Mala case was resumed today John Gaxieu, the official starter of the Australian Jockey Club, gave evidence for the defence. He said that at the start of the last Derby _ Mala looked all right and showed no sign of lameness. In fact, he settled down well at the barrier. Leslie Fraser, who is the A.J.C. senior steward, said Mala appeared a little fretful and was sweating a little more than usual. He did not appear to he in his usual condition prior to the start of the Derby, but witness did not notice any soreness or lameness.
