ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
DEATH DUE TO HEART FAILURE. An inquest on the death of James Jackson, an old-age pensioner, who collapsed at the. corner of Princes and Jetty streets on _ Wednesday, and subsequently died in the Hospital, was held this morning, Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., was coroner, and the proceedings were conducted by Sergeant Austin. - _ Evidence of identification was given by William Malcolmson, a farmer, of Mount Cargill, who outlined the movements of himself and the deceased on the day of the latter’s death. Eric Mitchell Elder, a house surgeon at Dunedin Hospital, described the condition of the deceased on his admission to the Hospital. He said that at 3.5 p.m. the patient stopped breathing suddenly, became blue, and died within a few moments. Constable M'Calman gave evidence of being called to attend the deceased at the Grand Theatre and ordering his removal to the Hospital. The Magistrate said that the deceased was a big man, and would fall heavily. He returned a verdict of death due to heart failure, induced by partial asphyxia, caused by the aspiration of vomited matter into the lungs,
