WEATHER FORECAST

COLD AND SWIAILY, The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay;— A deep depression crossed the Dominion yesterday, but a secondary is now advancing on to the Southern portion of the South Island. Forecast:; Strong westerly winds, backing again to southerlies and increasing at times to gale force. Weather cold and squally, with heavy showers. ' Hail probable in places and snow on.the ranges. Seas rough. IMPROVED CONDITIONS. Raiu fell on both Saturday and Sunday in Dunedin, but, despite this, the conditions were generally more pleasant than over the previous week. Bright sunshine induced warm temperatures on. Saturday, but rain fell yesterday. A chilling wind ameliorated the warmth of the sun this morning, but at noon further improvement was indicated. The temperatures over a 24-hour period at the Gardens on Saturday and Sunday were 55.5 deg and 41deg and 57.8 deg and 42deg maximum and minimum respectively. while the registrations until 12 o’clock to-day were 52deg and 46deg. Barometric pressure at this time was steady at 29.4 in. In April the rainfall totalled 5.77 m, the highest temperature reading was 72.5 deg (April I), and the lowest 34.2 deg (April 22), while the heaviest frost was 6deg on April 22.
