ORANGE SHORTAGE
GOVERNMENT NOT AT FAULT United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 24. A statement that the Government was in no way to blame for the shortage of oranges was made by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) to-day. The Australian Government has advised that no oranges are available from the ‘ Commonwealth. The Californian season has been a poor one, and Cook Islands oranges are late, arid are not likely to bo shipped before May. The Doric Star, which arrived at Auckland on Thursday, brought 8,000 cases of Jamaican, of which approximately onethird are for tho South Island. A further 3,400 cases will arrive early next month, and on May 14 the Mariposa will probably bring between 3,000 and 4,000 cases. Later in the month there should be a shipment from Rarotonga.
