OBITUARY
M J. H. GRAWSHAW •- Formerly district health officer in the Otago District, Dr J. H. Grawshaw died at Napier on Thursday last. Born at Wath-on-Dearne, Yorkshire, in 1869, Dr Grawshaw was educated at Archbishop Holzate’s School, York, where he won a scholarship for Cambridge University, of which he did not make use. He took classes at Leeds and the London University College, and after graduating was house surgeon to the late Lord Moynihan in Leeds. Coming to New Zealand in 1905, Dr Crawsbaw practised in Temuka and Kaiapoi, and later served during the Great War with the New Zealand Medical Corps. He then' entered the public service, and on his retirement from it went to England, where he : was attached to the Royal Air Force, statjoned. at Leuchars, Scotland, and Upper Hej-ford. England. He returned to New Zealand, however, on account of failing health. In his younger days Dr Grawshaw wa> an athlete of more than average ability. Before coming to New Zealand he represented United London Hospitals, the South of England, and was reserve for England at Rugby football.' In the Dominion he represented South Canterbury at cricket, and was interested in various other forms of sport. He also held office in the Masonic craft.
He married in 1899, and is survived by-his widow, two sons—Dr Jackson C'rawshaw (Nelson) and Mr Colin Crawshaw (Te Aroha) —and two daughters;—Mrs Herbert Twhigg-(Napief) and Mi* Norah Crawshaw (England). The death is announced of Mr Freeborn Parsons, of Benraore Station, Marlborough, East Coast, aged 83, one of the leading pastoralists of the district. He was a director of the Scales Shipping Line at Kaikoura. In 1896 he set'a world record riflo score at 700yds with the Martini-Henry. Ho competed at Bisley and in Australia.
