AMERICAN CITIZEN
SENTENCED TO DEATH IN GERMANY RUMOURED CONNECTION WITH PLOT AGAINST HITLER Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, April 25. (Received Aphil 26, at 11 a.m.) It is now disclosed that a Jew named Helmut Hirsch, aged 21, was sentenced to death on March 8 for high treason and bringing explosives into Germany. He is an American citizen. The sentence was not announced until March 20, which in some quarters is regarded as supporting the rumour that Hirsoh was connected with the plot against Herr Hitler, although it is reported that Hirsch only confected that ho planned to assassinate a high official.. The American Consul visited Hirsch, whom he found doubtful about the success of his appeal for commutation of the death penalty. Ho asked the consul to tell his parents in Czechoslovakia that he was calmly awaiting the end. The American Government is now, supporting his plea for clemency.
