ATHEISTIC COMMUNISM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Since “ Popoffski ” and Mr G. A. Herring have both refused to give a straight-out answer to my question, “Is Marxian Anti-God and Anti-Christian?” I will let the Soviet Government do it for them. “ Our task is not to reform, but to destroy, all kinds of religion, all kinds of morality.” Again, “it is the duty of the State to wage war without mercy on religion.” “ Religion is the opium of the people.” A pamphlet published officially by the Soviet Government in 1923 entitled ‘The A.B.C. of Communism,’ says: “The anti-religious war is not for Russia alone; it must be carried on throughout the world.” Lenin said: ‘ 1 Morality is a fraud, religion is the opium of the people. It must be destroyed with the capitalist. The Bolshevist system is unthinkable without terrorism.” This is what your correspondents are. trying to uphold, and I think we may well leave them to it.— I am, etc., Anti-Humbug, April 23.
