DARING FASHIONS
MODES FOR DAKDIES Man must have a really good excuse to break away from his beloved bladk-j acket-and-striped-trousers mode. The Coronation is the best excuse he has ever had. Cloth manufacturers are busily preparing dazzling new clothes to make this the brightest satorial season for men this age has known. One Huddersfield firm of worsted manufacturers has been inspired by thoughts of Coronation gaiety to devise a series of what it calls “plumage ” colours for men’s wear—daring yellows, blues, and green, and other shades borrowed from the birds—and is experimenting with them now. Other Yorkshire cloth manufacturers, though most of them are a little more conservative than this, are concentrating on brighter colours. One representative said: “There has been a tendency in the last year or two for men to get away from the dull greys and browns and blues they used to cling to so doggedly. With the Coronation coming along we cim be certain of a really determined change for the brighter. “ Light blues, greenish greys, and something with a good splash of red in it—they are the sort of colours we are getting ready.’’ In the laboratories of the Bradford Dyers’ Association 20 men who muse over colours as expertly as the connoissuey over his wine are blending gay varieties of shades and trying to ’ook almost a year ahead. “It is always a little difficult to "'auge what people will be wearing in about eight months’ time, but it is helpful to know that the predominat:ng colours for Coronation wear will he red and Flue,” one of these chemists if colour told a reporter. “ Purple, too, —royal purple—is bound to be popular, and I should dunk men would take to this colour very well. Women, though, will have iiuch more opportunity of experiment■ng with new colour schemes. Can vou imagine a man choosing a golden suit? That is going to be seen a good deal next spring.’.’
