CROQUET ITEMS

The members of the Watea Croquet Club entertained the tournament and senior shield winners at an afternoon tea party at the Veclic on Monday, April 19. Mrs John Wilson acted as hostess in the unavoidable absence of Mrs 11. James. A little gift as a name place was presented to the guests of honour. The president, Mrs W. Gibson, on behalf of the members, congratulated Mesdames Anderson, Gillanders, and Knox, who brought honours to the club as winners at the recent tournaments. Mrs Anderson suitably replied. Mrs Wilson congratulated Mesdames Robertson, Christopher, ' Anderson. O’Donnell, Gibson, Gillanders, Halliday, and M'Clatchy, on once again winning the Senior Shield. The captain (Mrs O’Donnell) replied on the players’ behalf. Mrs L. Coombs endorsed the congratulations, and paid a tribute to the seniors for their help to the juniors of the club. The members of the Watea Croquet Club entertained the honorary members at the lawns on Saturday, April 17. The afternoon being a perfect one, afternoon tea was served outside. The games and social chat were much enjoyed by nil. The club closed the lawns on Wednesday, April 21. The weather being beautifully fine, afternoon tea was served outside, and the lawns were filled with players. The president (Mrs Gibson) referred to the season as being a most successful one, and paid a tribute to office-bearers and also to the greenkeeper for the care he bestows on the lawns. Tainui Club. The Tainui Club closed the seasonon Thursday afternoon, when, _ owing to wintry conditions, cards in the pavilion provided the entertainment. At afternoon tea Mrs J. Lindsay presented Mrs O. G. Hardwick (president) with a beautiful bouquet in the club’s colours, of red, green, and gold.
