KENNEL ROTES

[By Tail-waggek.]

The clogs actually entered in the Sydney Royal this year totalled 1,378, smooth fox terriers topping the list with 200, red or blue speckled cattle dogs being second with 90, cockers third with 95, wire-haired fox terriers fourth with 90 (a big jump from previous years), and Scottish terriers tifth with 47. The best dog in the show was Mrs E. C. Gray’s blueroan cocker, Midas of Hollymount (imp., by Pacemaker of Ware) from Melbourne, the best bitch being the bullie, ch. Bonnie of Cherokee (by Roxburgh Democrat), belonging to Mrs A. A. Mil wain, of Sydney. Other big winners were: Mr A. A. White’s imported Scottie ch. Heather Guardsman (by ch. Heather Fashion Hint), from Melbourne, which won the £5 5s presented by Mr Neville Dawson for the best terrier dog, and Mr H. I. Jones’s ch. Hounslow Judy (smooth foxie), which won that, presented by the same donor, for best terrier bitch in show; while the pair of silver spoons, presented by the Fox Terrier Club of England for the best Australian or New Zealand-bred wire-haired dog or bitch, went to Mr F. Hilton’s ch. Solace Sure Tip; the other pair of spoons, from the same source, for the best Australian or New Zealand-bred smooth puppy dog or bitch went to a son of ch. Hounslow Judy’s-*-Miss P. Wilson’s Hounslow Advance. The best of the ware fox terriers was the bitch, Dogberry Springtime (imp.), belonging to Mr G. K. Garrard, the smooth fox terrier winner being ch. Hounslow Judy and Mrs A. F. Waters’s old dog, gd. ch. Yootha Sceptre, by gd, ch. Yootha Sprite, ex. ch. Dunsdryard (imp.). In these smooth fox terrier classes some really wonderful dogs were exhibited, and the size of some of the classes must have fairly-staggered the judge. There were 21 puppy dogs to sort out in the uuder-12-nionths class, and 24 in the under-9-moiiths bitch class, the under-12-months having 18. There were 23 contestants in the novice dog and 29 in the open class, which was won by Yootha Sceptre, followed by last year’s winner, ch. Salford Stan, dard. by Mr T. Godfrey’s great dog, ch. Woodsmoor Nicholas (imp.), and W. R. Policy’s hig winner, gd. ch. Jerry Ideal, by ch. Yootha Ideal (imp.). The novice bitch class saw 25 enter the ring, there being 23 in Australian-bred and 20 in the open, which Dame Margaret of Launton won, although she was only the reserve challenge bitch eventually, the actual challenge winner, Hounslow Judy, not being entered in the open.

This week we have a photograph of Mr E. Johnston’s Pekc., Ching Wuh of Montresor, by Nu Dali of Windermere, ex Ming Su of Montresor, and, as his name indicates, bred by Mrs Ridger, of Christchurch. Ching Wuh was third in the under-12-mont,hs and novice classes at the D.F.C. kennel section’s parade a couple of iveeks ago, and from appearances he looks as though ho would have little trouble to go higher very soon.
