MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —On Wednesday evening 1 listened to an interesting address on ‘ Famous Trials of History ’ by a Dunedin _ barrister. Amongst others, he mentioned the trial pf Mary, Queen of Soots. In connection with this he stated that Queen Elizabeth signed her sister’s death warrant. This is incorrect. Elizabeth’s half-sister was Mary Tudor (known to history as “ Bloody Mary”), who was Queen of England before Elizabeth. On her death, as she had no children to succeed her, Elizabeth came to the throne. Mary, Queen of Scots (Mary Stuart) was Elizabeth’s cousin, and was suspected of having designs on the throne of England, hence her death.—l cm. etc., Tudor Hose. March 13.
