"-Ministerial.—* The Hon. P. C. Webb, _ Minister of Mines, who arrived by air from tha north yesterday, left yesterday afternoon for General Otago. To-day Mr Webb took part in the ceremony to mark the beginning of operations of the Clutha Dredging Company’s large dredge. Dr D. G. M'Millan, M.P., returned to Dunedin from the north this afternoon. Mr W. R. Brinsley, sen., left to-day for Auckland. Mr H. Harris was a passenger by tha express to-day, being hound for Wellington to attend the annual meeting on Wednesday of the New Zealand Master Printers’ Federation, of which he is president. Sergeant A. Doel, of the Auckland Police Force, who has been on a visit to Dunedin, left to-day on his return north. Mr C. L. Finer, secretary of the Otago Wrestling Association, travelled by the express to-day en route for Wellington, to attend a conference of the Dominion Wrestling Union. British papers report the death, afj the age of 83, of Mr Spenser Wilkinson, for some years Professor of Military History at Oxford University, and ari authoritative writer on questions of policy, defence, and war. A cablegram has been received in Dunedin from Professor Seward (corresponding secretary of the Royal Society, London) announcing the election to a fellowship of the Royal Society of Dr J. E. Holloway, lecturer in botany at the _ University of Otago. This high has been conferred upon Dr Holloway in recognition of his botanical work, particularly his investigations intothe life histories of New Zealand pteridophyta, including several lycopodiums, tmesipteris, phylloglossum, and various filmy ferns (HymenophylaceasV, Mr W. At a later stage Mr Allan was elected a life member. The Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cos), the Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr J. J. Marlow), Mr R. A. Johnston (acting town clerk), and Cr G. A. Orange and Mr A. L. Burk, of the Green Island Borough Council, returned last night after attending the Municipal Conference .at Timaru. ■ Mr W. F. Rigby, until recently a member of the staff of the Southland branch of the National Insurance Company, accompanied by Mrs Rigby, left this_ morning for Brisbane. Mr Rigby will he attached to the Queensland branch of the company and will be stationed at Toowoomba. A Press Association cable message from Sydney states that Mr C. L. Abbott, Federal member for, Gwydir, has been appointed Administrator of the Northern Territory. By a large majority Air Jacob Elliott, of Otahuhu, has been re-elected by ballot the New Zealand Locomotive Workshops representative on the Railways Board or Appeal. In response to a petition, Air Elliott has decided to contest the presidency of the New Zealand Union of Railwayman. He is president of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket' Association,- and, has: been a delegate to the railway conference since 1918. and in executive office fop the past 10 years. He is also the national representative on the Railways Superannuation Board, The ballot closes in April, Mr E. J. Dash, South Canterbury, who is now president, .is leaving in April for the Geneva Conference to represent New Zealand industrial unions.—Auckland Association message.
