DANGEROUS SURF
BEACHES IN POOR STATE 'ST. CLAIR PARTICULARLY BAB The strong south-westerly wind of the past week has been responsible for very heavy seas on the Tomahawk, St. Kilda, and St. Clair Beaches, and although the seas had moderated appreciably this morning, they still present a decided obstacle to safe hathing. The surf is particularly dangerous at St. Clair, and bathers there are warned to use every precaution when venturing into it. A strong rip is running towards the the beach is very steep, with deep holes in many places, and conditions generally are the worst for some time; Tomahawk Beach _ is in good order. Though seas maintain the roughness of the past week, they are expected to moderate steadily, and with the next tide a great improvement should be apparent. There is .mo wind at Tomabut bathers are warned to keep strictly to the flagged area in their own interests. A dangerous surf persists at St. Kilda, with the temperature of the water very low, though the sands are in good order. A slight backwash should *be watched carefully. The beach is flagged over the most favourable area, and it is expected that an improvement will be to-mor-row if present weather conditions are still prevalent.
