AFTERNOON SESSION The monthly meeting of_ the Otago Provincial Council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was continued yesterday afternoon, Mr R. J. E. Smith presiding. NOXIOUS WEEDS. The sub-committee set up to consider the control of noxious weeds recommended that arrangements be made for a deputation from the Farmers’ Union to, wait upon the Minister of Agriculture upon the occasion of his next visit to Dunedin, and that pending such deputation a questionnaire be sent out to all branches in Otago with the request that such branches set up sub-committees to supply the following information: — List of noxious weeds of the district in order of importance. Approximate area covered by each. Approximate spread of noxijus weeds during the past 10 years. Steps being taken in district to check spread. Recommendations from district fo> tackling the problem. Position on road lines. Crown lands, etc. The recommendation was adopted. WOMEN’S DIVISION. Mrs W. Elliott (Clarendon) and Mrs J. F. Drake (Berwick) were present as representatives of the Women’s Division, but they intimated that, while appreciating the privilege of attendance extended to them, they did not intend to, be present at future meetings unless the council had some special matters affecting their division to discuss. Reference was mad© by the chairman to the recent deaths of Mr -lames Howell (Maniototo) and Mr A. J. Sheat (Windsor Park, North Otago), and the customary tribute to their memory was paid. VISIT OF AUSTRALIAN FARMERS. Mr A. Renton (Stirling) reported on the arrangements for the visit of Australian farmers to the root-growing districts of South Otago. The Women’s Division had undertaken to assist in the entertainment of the visitors. The matter of final arrangements for the visit was left in the hands of Messrs Renton and Cameron and the secretary.
