PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
DELAY IN NEGOTIATIONS DEPRECATED [Per United Press Association.] NAPIER, February 18. The continued delay in the negotiations regarding the transpacific service proposed by the Pan-American Airways has prompted Mr M. G. C. M'Caul, of Wellington, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, who is visiting Napier, to issue a statement on the subject. “ The suggestion that there has occurred a serious hitch in the negotiations between the New Zealand Government and the Pan-American Airways for the establishment of an air service will !•*« viewed with alarm by all commercial men who have given any thought to the very real advantages that will accrue to New Zealand from the establishment of such a service. We do not yet know whether the proposed transtasman services will eventuate, even if New Zealand contributed a heavy subsidy. A transpacific service is within our grasp. No subsidy is asked, and surely it seems wise to stop haggling and close the deal while we may. We should not allow this opportunity to pass unless there are grave objections that have not so far been disclosed.
