BIG UNION DOMINATION
FEARS OF ALLIANCE OF LABOUR UNITY CONFERENCE DEMANDED [Pint United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 18. Opposition to the plan for the formation of a New Zealand Federation of Labour, proposals for which were contained in a circular issued by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Now Zealand Workers Union, and the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, was embodied in a resolution passed to-night by the Canterbury District Council of the New Zealand Alliance of Labour, the proposal is considered by the council to make for dominance by these three large unions. The resolution was as follows “ That this district council loyally reaffirms its affiliation with the New Zealand Alliance of Labour under its present leadership, and condemns the attempt now being made to disrupt the national industrial movement by the setting up of another national organisation under the domination of a combination of big unions. We call upon our National Council immediately, in conjunction with the Trades and Labour Councils’ Federation, to send out a call for a national trades union unity conference, based on democratic representation from M unions, large or small, for the Purpose of building up one national trades union centre in New Zealand, based on equal rights for all unions.
