As a sequel to the birth-rate discussion, Mr Cartland has been inundated with letters proposing marriage. He is sending out short formal acknowledgments, “ declining with thanks.” [Recently the House of Commons discussed the birth rate on the motion of Mr J. R. Cartland (Con.), who expressed the opinion that the decline in population would possibly endanger maintenance of the Empire, and urged a Government inquiry.]
