Jack Welsh, aged 32, was swimming with two companions 150yds from the shore when a large shark attacked uim several times. Both legs' were dreadfully mutilated above the knee and one Arm was also mutilated. The body floated ashore a few minutes later on the crest of the breakers. Death was apparently instantaneous. A companion, Herbert Street, _ stated that he heard Welsh give a faint cry and disappear under the surface. He realised tha\ it would be futile and positively dangerous to tiy to help. He saw a shark’s fins during the attack. __
