ATTACKED BY SHARK
AUSTRALIAN BEAGH TRAGEDY i DEAD BODY FLOATS ASHORE. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY’, February 13. A. shark tragedy occurred at Newcastle Beach on Saturday afternoon. Jack Welsh, aged 32, was swimming with two companions 150yds from the shore when a large shark attacked uim several times. Both legs' were dreadfully mutilated above the knee and one Arm was also mutilated. The body floated ashore a few minutes later on the crest of the breakers. Death was apparently instantaneous. A companion, Herbert Street, _ stated that he heard Welsh give a faint cry and disappear under the surface. He realised tha\ it would be futile and positively dangerous to tiy to help. He saw a shark’s fins during the attack. __
