COLD AND SQUALLY The following weather report was ” issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts: Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Inv.efeargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Half moon Bay:— Though pressure is still low over the Dominion, and still lower to the east, barometers are now showing a. rising tendency. An intense anti-cyclone covers the south-western Tasman Sea, but secondary depressions* continue to cross New Zealand. Forecast: Moderate to strong southerly winds, reaching gale force at times in exposed positions, but gradually decreasing. Weather cold and squally, with passing showers and, in places, nail, but improving slowly. Seas rough. RAINS CEASE. Showery and boisterous condition* prevailed on Saturday, heavy rain falling at scattered intervals, with the result that .13in was registered. _ Yesterday saw practically a repetition of the weather of the preceding day, but the rain was of lesser intensity. This morning broke fine, but the sky was heavily overcast, and a strong south-westerly wind prevailed, as over the week-end. Barometric pressure was falling gradually at 29.55 in at noon, when indications were for a change during the afternoon. Temperatures to-day have dropped to a very low level, 48deg maximum and 45.5 deg minimum. On Saturday, 53.5 and 42.2 deg were the readings over a 24-hour period, as compared with 62.3 and 45deg yesterday, when rainfall to the extent of .14in was recorded. The total amount of rain which fell last week was 3.99 in.
