CHRISTIAN COMMUNISM.
TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —Those who have objected to Communism on tho grounds that it was against Christianity should ho pleased to hear of the proposed formation of a Christian Communistic Party, tho members of which arc required to be earnest Christians as well as active Communists. They claim that Communism is the perfect and complete fulfilment of Christ’s teaching, and that the reason Christianity has not won the world is simply that the Divine message has been toned down to suit the selfishly-constituted human mind. The position, briefly stated, is that unless all earnest Christians form themselves into a Christian Communist movement pledged to abolish all poverty and oppression, and establish a
Christian, brotherhood; the job will be done, or attempted, by who, though earnest, are for many reasons less competent for such a tremendous task. The loaders of the Christian Church as men of learning must know that not for ever can one section ot the community remain the paid slaves of the other, being poorly housed and under-supplied; not for ever can one section of the community gamble with the food supplies of the masses in a sporting attempt to get rich quick. Christian Communism denounces selfish Christianity as false, and it also denounces anti-Christian Communism as incomplete. Since. it holds that Christ’s teaching embodies Communism and carries us still further in its code of moral and spiritual living,_ Christian Communism claims that Christians, to bo practical, must rally to its standard and abolish tho system to which wo are all victims. The gospel of Christian Communism will be preached in the near future.—l am, otc., G. A. Herring. February 12.
