Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs:—There was quite a lively start on the exchange this morning, and, with plenty of orders about, a substantial list of sales was recorded at the first call. The banking section opened with fair activity, three sales being noted in this class. The National Bank of Australasia (con.) issue sold Is 9d up at £7 14s 9d, while Commercial and New Zealands were unchanged. Insurances were steady and firm. In the brewery class the announcement of hew capital by Dominions brought a readjustment of values. Both ordinary and preference shares were ■ quoted ex rights with a market between 39s and 435, while a buyer offered 8s 6d for rights with no seller in sight. This gives a value for the shares, cum. rights, of- something over £2 7s 6d, compared with last week’s peak price of £2 ss. The Australian issues started the week- well. Mount Lyells touched a new high level with business at 44s 6d, while Broken Hills gained Is 6d, with a- sale at 82s 9d. Electrolytic Zinc firmed, with the market for ordinaries from 56s 3d to 56s 6d, and for the preferences from 57s to 57s 6d. In Government stocks the 1943-46 issue was quoted ex interest, , with buyers at £lOl 10s apd sellers 10s higher. FOREIGN EXCHANGES, • (British Official Wireless.)
