INDIGNANT SPEECH
DR GOEBBELS ADDRESSES 20,000 NAZIS •• WE SAVAGES ARE FINE FELLOWS AFTER ALL " Press Association —By Telegraph Copyright PARIS, February 13. An indignant speech by Dr Goebbels was delivered to 20,000 Nazis, which he contemptuously referred to France, Russia, Czechoslovakia, and Britain, and declared that “‘lf we compare the political life of the so-called democratic France and Britain with that of Germany we find we savages are fine fellows after all.” He added that the French had lost the inclination to march into the Ruhr again. We have torn up the Treaty of Versailles and thrown it in the face of our opponents. Rearmament has cost us many sleepless nights, and entailed great risk. We could not take the German people into our confidence at the time. If we are accused of springing surprises our reply is that there was no other way possible.” CRITICISM IN PARIS PARIS, February 14. (Received February 15, at 1.30 p.m.) ‘ L’lntransigeant,’ referring to Dr Goebbel’s declaration that Germany did not want war, declares; “It significantly followed the British announcement of the defence loan, which is enough to intimidate any Reichswehr general.”
