NEW ATTACK CN MADRID ARTILLERY ACTIVE THROUGHOUT NIGHT Press Association^—By Telegraph—Copyright MADRID, February 12. Gunfire throughout the night was associated with the rebels’ new attack on the western part of tho city, which was apparently unsuccessful. General de Llano broadcast a denial that Italians and Germans helped to capture Malaga. He claims his forces are 100 per cent. Spaniards, and reveals that among those captured and awaiting a court martial include the president of the popular tribunal, Senor Meliui, who is alleged to have been responsible for 5,000 executions of non-sympathisers. NON-IHTERVEHTION COMMITTEE PROPOSED NAVAL SUPERVISION. LONDON, February 11. Herr von Ribhentrop attended a meeting of tho sub-committee of the Non-intervention Committee. The ‘ News-Chronicle ’ says the Nonintervention Committee, after wrangling in the morning, conceded the principle of Russia’s right to participate in patrolling under the proposed naval supervision. Portugal claimed a similar right, resulting in a subcommittee being appointed to consider the plan on the basis of six Powers partcipating. The British Government has received information that all British property in' Malaga is intact. VALENCIA BOMBARDED FROM SEA VALENCIA, February 12. (Received February 13, at 10.30 a.m.) The suburbs of Valencia were bombarded at dawn from, the sea. Coastal batteries returned the fire. Little damage was done. GERMAN AMBASSADOR APPOINTED BERLIN, February 12. (Received February 13, at 10.30 a.m.) Herr Faupel has been appointed German Ambassador to General Franco’s Government. ARRESTED BY REBELS NOTED BRITISH ZOOLOGIST. GIBRALTAR, February 12. (Received February 13, at 10.35 a.m.) When the rebels entered Malaga they arrested as a Government sympathiser the noted zoologist, Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell, who was residing there. He was released, after intervention by the British Consul, on condition that he left the town immediately. Sir Peter Mitchelb declined to comment on his arrival at Gibraltar, SPANISH MEDICAL AID., The secretary-treasurer of the Spanish Relief Committee acknowledges receipt of the following:—
The secretary reports that there are strong committees now working in all the main centres, and it is likely that the funds will rapidly increase so as to get the medical unit off to Spain at an early date.
