PLANE CRASHES ON FARM
PASSENGER SLIGHTLY INJURED PILOT ESCAPES UNHURT [Per United Pkess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 12. A Spartan aeroplane owned by New Zealand Airways was wrecked on a farm at Stavely this afternoon, the pilot, Mr John Kalian, being uninjured. MaColin L. Austin, aged 26 years, the owner of the farm, who was a passenger in the aeroplane, suffered a scalp wound. The machine, which was totally wrecked, was taken in a lorry to Springburn, and from there it will be sent by rail to Timaru.
The pilot took off twice without a passenger to test the field. A gusty north-west wind was blowing at the time.
