LEVEL CROSSING SMASH
EXPRESS WRECKS TRUCK DRIVER CRITICALLY INJURED [Per United. Press Association.] WHANGAREI, February 12. A half-ton truck driven by William Heather, a married man, of Otaika road, Whangarei, struck the north express at the Kensington level crossing this morning. • • The truck was completely wrecked, the main body being hurled a distance of more than a chain. Heather was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition, suffering from a fracture of the'base of the skull and severe facial injuries. He was profoundly unconscious on admission, and his condition is considered grave.
