CHRISTMAS TREE IN RUSSIA
Christmas trees and Santa Claus, which made their reappearance in Moscow a year ago, with official approval, under the guise of New Year decorations, have proved to be a source of unexpected . profit to Soviet trade organisations. So great has been the demand for more .Christmas tree decorations that one large toy factory is henceforth to devote its total output all the year round to Christmas decorations. Leningrad alone sold more than half a million roubles’ worth of Christinas toys and decorations within less than three weeks. Moscow’s leading stores ana public squares were early decorated with these New Year decorations, much to the delight of young and old. In fact, Moscow was so pleased that it wanted to be certain that the rest of the country was sharing in its joy, and several wagon loads of Christmas trees and decorations, it was announced, were sent to Central Asia, ' where Mussulmans for the first time in ! their experience would rejoice around i the Christmas tree. 1
