Mackie Begg has returned from a holiday spent at Paradise, Miss Dorothy Mackay left to-day on a holiday visit to Wellington. Captain and Mrs Norman Macdonald have returned to Otago Central. Miss Ethel Pearce, St. Clair, has returned from a. visit to Sydney'. ' Miss Diana Pusinolli, England, is the guest of Miss Theomin, Royal Terrace. Mr and Mrs Porter Lee, of New York, who have been staying at the Grand Hotel, left this morning for the north. Mrs Fred Kitto, acccompanied by her mother and small daughter, will leave on Tuesday on an extended holiday in the North Island. Miss E. H. Runnerstrum and Miss Hilary' Runnerstrum returned this afternoon from a visit to the North Island. Mrs R. Kennedy was “at home ” on Wednesday afternoon at Whitelee, in honour of her guest. Lady Hutchison was hostess at a tea party yesterday afternoon at her home in Park street, when the guests were: Lady Sidey, Mrs Arthur Reid (Melbourne), Mrs Porter Lee (New York), Mrs Percy Priest, Mrs H. Hart, Mrs 0. K. Tennent, and Mrs E. T. Burnside. Mr Justice Kennedy and Mrs Kennedy gave a dinner party last evening at Whitelee in honour of their guests, Sir John and Lady Reed, of Wellington. Others present were Mr and Mrs Norman Haggitt, Mr and Mrs A. C. Stephens, Mr and Mrs E. J, Smith, and Mr and Mrs J. S. Sinclair. Mr and Mrs Edward PenrosePitzGerald (nee Isabel Wilford) have arrived in London from Lima, and, as far as they know they will be making their home in London. They are at present looking for a" suitable* flat. Sir Thomas and Lady Wilford. who have bought a home in New Zealand, will now have all family ties in England, for their daughter and her husband think they have left South America for good, and Mr and Mrs Maclean Wilford and their two sons live in England.

Miss M. Wallace has returned to Dunedin from Sydney, where she spent some six -week holidaying. Mrs E. R. Bolwell, Dunedin, is a visitor to Wellington with her husband, and is staying at the Empire Hotel. Mrs George Burdon, Pembroke, is the guest of Miss Hunter-Weston foa - the races. Miss A. Joyce, matron of St. Helen’s Hospital, returned during the week from a holiday spent in Invercargill and Riverton. Mrs Stanley Carr, of Neutral Bay, Sydney, who is spending a holiday in Dunedin, is the guest of her mother, Mrs A. M‘Gregor, Massey Avenue, St. Clair. Miss Ailsa Lawson, Karitane, is the guest of Mrs W. E. Carswell for a few days before leaving with her sister, Miss Margaret Lawson, by the Tamaroa for England. Miss Young, matron of Ross Home, left for the north on Wednesday morning to act as delegate for the Registered Nurses’, Association of Otago and Southland at a conference of New Zealand presidents to be held in Wellington. The Dunedin Citizens’ Day Nursery, Moray Place (past Moray Place Post Office) will be« re-opened on March 1. Mothers in town for a day’s shopping may leave their children in charge of the nurse and may be confident that' they will be well looked after.

A very enjoyable evening of games and competitions was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs Hancock, Main, road. North-east Valley on Thursday evening, the guests being the Methodist Church choir. A dainty supper, served by the hostess, brought the evening to a pleasant close. On Wednesday ev’ening last Miss Betty Mill was hostess at a party given in honour of Miss Beverley Stuart, who is leaving shortly for Sydney. The guests included Misses Gath Reidy, Denise Kay, Lorna Stuart, Kay Salmond, Molly Boyd, Nancy Barton, and Messrs J. Swan, R. Grimmet, D. Reeves, J. Macassey, W. Speight, and R. Wheeler. Mrs A. Campbell was the guest of honour at a very enjoyable afternoon tea party in the Tudor Hall, prior to her departure on an extended trip. Among the guests present were Mesdames A. Campbell, Holland, Grubb, Coutts, Davies, Wilson, W. Holland, Campbell, Gillanders, A. Newey, Dakers, Montgomery, and Miss Nanna Newey.

Mrs F. T. Anderson gave an enjoyable tea party at her residtence, London street, on Wednesday afternoon, as a farewell to Mrs Norton Oram. Her guests were Mesdames Hudson, Miles, Hunter, Mollison, Barron, Scoular, Ringland, Seelye, Burt, Reid, Barnett, Garrett, and Parsonson, and Miss Clare Black.

Mrs H. Kasper, Auckland, who will represent New Zealand at the Washington Conference of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the PanPacific Conference of Women at Vancouver, has been, chosen to represent the Federation of New Zealand Justices of the Peace at the coronation of. King George VI. Other representatives will be Mr J, W. Bissett and Mr P. J. Galliens.

Mrs A. C. Stephens and Miss Patsy Stephens gave a delightful dance on Thursday evening at their home in Hawthorne Avenue in honour of Miss Betty Rutherford, of Milton, and Mr J. Johnson, whose engagement has just been announced. The other guests were Mr and Mrs R. M. Rutherford, Mr and Mrs Oswald Stephens, Mr and Mrs £>. Sparrow, Mr and Mrs H. E. Ferguson, Mr and Mrs Peterson, Mrs W. M. Smel, Misses Pat Miles and Connie Poole, Dr G. Barnett, and the Messrs R. Nancarrow, J. Borrie, Pat Jaques, and INeville Murdoch.

On Wednesday, February 3, the Strand Salon was the scene of a very enjoyable <( gift ” evening given in honour of Miss Winnie Johnston, who is to be a February bride. Misses Kayanagh„. Hannan, M'Tigue, and White were the hostesses. The evening was spent in. trump whist, the prize winner being Miss M. Armit. Among those present were Mesdames K. Chapman, Petherick, Hendrick, Kavanagh, Prince, Hogg, Carroll, Holly, Sinclair, Hay, Woodmancv, He Joux, Davis, and Misses Whitd, .Kavanagh, Hannan, M'Tigue, Johnston. Thomas, Paget, Bowler, Carroll, Daniels. Sandys, Jouber, Fulton Vorrath,, Muldowney. Chapman, Armit, Himberg, and Ballantyne. Others who have entertained in Miss Johnston’s honour are Mesdames W. A very pleasant evening was held in the Druid’s Hall, Ravensbourne, on Tuesday, February 9, when Mr and Mrs C. Jarvis entertained a few friends, the occasion being the coming-of-age of their only daughter, Cora. The guests were received by Mrs Jarvis and Miss Cora, the former was attired in brown silk shadow lace with accessories to tone, while her daughter looked charming gowned in pink silk lace and net with silver spray and shoes to tone. Mr L. Jarvis and Mr R. Veitch kindly provided the music for the dancing, songs, and recitations, which were much enjoyed, that were given by Mrs Muir, Miss Anderson, Mr R. M'Kinlay, sen., Mr G. M‘Kinlay, and Mr Charles Jarvis, sen., Mr R. Guthrie and Mr C Jarvis, jun., capably carried out the duties of M.C.s for the dancing and games. The singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne ’ brought a very happy evening to a close.
