Mr P. Neilson, M.P., returned yes* terday from Wellington. Sir John and Lady Reed returned north this morning. To replace Lieutenant-commander J. T. Lean, of H.M.S. Philomel, on the New Zealand station, Lieutenantcommander E. W. Mo.nckton arrived at Auckland from London by the Rangitiki. Joining the Navy in 1917, Lieu-tenant-commander Mouckton served first on the training ship Temeraire, and was later in the Renown during her visit to Japan with the former Prince ,of Wales. His later service has been in submarines and destroyers. He is accompanied by Mrs Monckton. A New Zealander who has “ made good ” in commercial aviation in England, Mr 6. G. Stead, formerly of Hastings, arrived at Auckland from London by the Rangitiki, accompanied by Mrs Stead. He will spend four years as a pilot with the Cook Strait Airways before leaving to engage in the British Airways projected service across the South Atlantic _to Rio da Janeiro. Mr Stead, who did his early flying in Hastings, left eight years ago for England, and spent five years with the Royal Air Force. Subsequently he spent 3,000 hours’ commercial flying in all parts of Europe and as far east as Singapore under the British Airways and Indian National Ah - " ways. Official notification of promotion in the Grand Priory in the British Realm of the Venerable Order of the Hospital, of St. John in Jerusalem and , of admission to the Order has been, received by the Knight Commander of the Order in New Zealand, Colonel Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, K.C.V.0., K.8.E., Lieutenant-colonel Alexander Robertson Falconer, C.8.E., V.D., M. 8., has been promoted from the grade of officer to that of knigHt. Mr Bernard Edward Howard Tripp, C.8.E., has been admitted to the Order in the grade of commander, and Mr John Heaton Rhodes and Mrs Agnes Jane Falconer have been admitted in the grade of officers. On the recommendation of the chapter-general, H.R.H. the Grand Prior (the Duke of Connaught) has approved the award of a vellum vote or thanks to -Mrs Emma Jane Hooper. Private advice from England records the death of the Rev. Dr W. Pascoe Goard, LL.D., F.R.G.S.. F.R.E.S.. vice-president of the British-Israel World Federation. An Association message from Blenheim states that a private Lon--don cablegram announces the death yesterday of Mr George Fowell Watts, of Lansdowne Station, a prominent Marlborough pastoralist.
