MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last night. Present were Mr W. J. Bardsley (president, in the chair), Messrs G.i F. Bewley, E. 0. Yates, F. T. Partel, W. 6. Hewitt, W, P. Gourlick, W. Trotter, T. Cuthbert, W. H. Sell, and F. C. Brown. SANDERS CUP. -y..,A. .letter ~,,yraa.received ~->f-t;om the Ravensbourne Boating ; Club, asking for advice as to whether the association was sending a crew to compete in the Sanders Cup contest, as the club 'wished to consider the possibility of sending a crew itself. The Chairman reported that the Emergency Committee had informed the club that the matter _of actually competing had been held in abeyance in the meantime, though a challenge had been issued, but if it was decided not to send a competing crew the association would be agreeable to the club sending a crew at its own expense. The action of the committee was approved. The Station Director, 4YA, wrote stating that the question of rebroadasting a description of the Sanders Cup races would receive consideration. He also stated that the broadcasting of .the final of the local trials woidd be considered. The secretary was instructed to notify the station director that next Sat--urday’s trial would probably be the final one. The Secretary of the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association wrote stating that challenges had been received for the Sanders Clip from the Auckland, Wellington, Otago, and Southland provincial districts. He further advised that the first race was set down for Thursday, February 4, 1937. REGATTAS. The Burkes-St. Leonards Regatta Committee forwarded a copy of its programme for its New Year’s Day fixture.-—The programme was approved and Mr Yates was appointed to represent the association at the regatta. The Secretary of the Broad Bay Boating Club wrote asking for permission to hold its regatta on February 13 instead of March 13, as that date had been made available by the BurkesSt. Leonards Club.—The secretary was instructed to ask the Otago Regatta Committee to vacate February 13 in favour of the Broad Bay Committee. IDLE ALONG CLASS. The Secretary, of the Tauranga Yacht and Motor Boat Club wrote stating that in order to relieve the Otago Association of transportation, a member of the club had offered to lend his boat to the association for the Idle Along class contest. Details of the contest were also forwarded.—The offer was accepted, and it was decided to challenge for the Idle Along contest and the monotype championship. LIFEBUOYS ON WHARVES. “ 1 wish to suggest that clubs, at the various points around the harbour, should accept as being their responsibility the providing of lifebuoys at the wharves which they use,” said the Chairman. “ I have had long enough experience of the cost to the Harbour Board in so constantly having to replace buoys, removed, apparently maliciously, that I do not • think the board can be expected to supply new ones. The removal of these buoys will one day lead to a sad loss of life, and 1 venture to think that if the various clubs have to pay the cost of new ones there may bo a 'possibility of them not dis- j appearing so consistently. As the busy season in aquatic matters is right on iis, I suggest there is no time to lose in getting new buoys installed.” RULING ASKED FOR. Mr Cuthbert asked the chairman for a ruling on the position if a delegate was an unfinancial member of his club. The Chairman said the matter was one for, the club concerned and declined to give a ruling. Mr Cuthbert then asked various questions regarding the appointment of two delegates, and was advised to apply to the secretary of the club concerned.
