Mr C. Stanley Smith returned yesterday from Wellington. . ‘ Dr D. G. M'Millan, M.P., arrived back last night from Wellington. Mr W. Easton returned yesterday afternoon from Wellington. A Wellington Association message states that Mr W. J. Dyment arrived at Wellington by the Awatea to open an office for the Canadian National Railways. He has spent about six years in the East, and will remain here for about nine months, then proceeding to Montreal. Mr R. D. Stewart has been appointed secretary of the Otago A. and P. : Society in succession to Mr A. F. Duthie, who has resigned in order to become field inspector for the Lands Department at Invercargill. Mr Stewart was educated at St. Clair School and at the Otago Boys’ High School, and spent some years in the service of Messrs Ross and Glendining Ltd., later taking up farming in the Balfour district, where he remained until recently. He will take over the position from Mr Duthie at the beginning of the new year. Mr J. G. D. Ward, eldest son of Sir Cyril and Lady Ward, of Merivale Lane, returned to Christchurch yesterday morning after almost two years abroad. Mr Ward gained experience with various shipping companies of England and he is now to take up the position of secretary with Kinsey and Company Ltd., the shipping agents here. Mr Laurence M'Farlane, a son of Mr H. 0. M'Farlane, of Dunedin, has been accepted by the Royal Air Force for a short time commission, and is now in training in England. Mr F. W. Lowery (Wellington), Mrs and Mr Peter Wood, Mr A. Donald Paterson, and Mr and Mrs Denis Anderson (Christchurch) are guests ai the Grand Hotel.
