CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
CHAMPIONSHIP RAGES ON SATURDAY
On Saturday afternoon, at Wingatui, the Otago senior cross-country championship will be decided over a course of six and a-quartcr miles, and the provincial junior championship will be run over a course of three and oneeighth miles. For both races the entries constitute a record. Vo fewer than 17 teams, comprising 102 runners, will contest the senior event, and 11 teams, comprising 73 runners, will line up for the junior event. The teams’ race in each event is for teams of six, of whom four count for points. The senior race has drawn a team from the Invercargill Club and another from St. Paul's, Invercargill, and the latter club is also fielding a team in the junior event, in which the individual runners include a representative of the Timaru Harrier Club. The Invercargill team includes G. H. Watson, the former Canterbury representative, who was seventh in the New Zealand cross-country championship last year. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. The teams race in the senior event was won by Civil Service last year, and this club also won the teams honours in the junior race, Anglican being run-ner-up in each case. W. A. _C. Pullar (Anglican) won the senior individual title and R. M‘Lachlau (Civil Service) the junior individual title.
