THE ABERHART CERTIFICATES MUTEST TO DOMINION GOVERNMENT Pm* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. EDMONTON, August 8. The Chamber of Commerce to-day appealed to the Dominion Government to stop the circulation of the Aberhart social credit certificates. The Prime Minister (Mr W. Mackenzie King) referred the protest to the law officers of the Crown. He Aberhart Government on Wednesday distributed 250,000 dollars’ worth of certificates all over the province in payment to the unemployed for work on roads. Some merchants accepted them, but the majority refused. Each certificate must have a Aberhart Government stamp affixed every week lor 104 weeks, and then it will be redeemable for a dollar. The Chamber of Commerce declares that the issue is illegal in that only the Dominion has authority to issue currency, and complains that the issue is creating intolerable confusion in business.

Mr Aberhart, replying, describes the chamber as the mouthpiece of those who are oppressing the people. Business men predict a crisis when merchants who accept the scrip attempt to recoup their stocks from wholesalers outside the province, who have already declared that they will not accept the scrip.
