OTAGO HUNT CLUB

MEET AT NORTH TAIERI Favoured by ideal weather conditions, the weekly run of the Otago Hunt Culb was held on Saturday at Black Bridge, North Taieri, over the properties of Messrs D. Leishman, J. Skinner, and D. Connor. The throw-off took place in Mr Leislnnan’s property shortly alter d. 15, and the pack was soon on the trail, and bunted well throughout the run. Tlio first two jumps, a post and rails and a hawthorn hedge, were well cleared, hut at the third fence several horses ran off. The next two obstacles (posts and rails) provided good jumping before “ Becher’s Brook ” was reached. This consists of a hawthorn hedge with a water ditch on the lauding side, and on account of the heavy going at the take-off this proved very tricky. Trouble is usually experienced here, and Saturday’s run was no exception. Mr Skinner’s property was then entered, where a gorse hedge provided excellent jumping. The trail then turned to the right to a good road double consisting of a wire fence and a gorse hedge. Continuing through Mr Connor’s property, the riders cleared two post and rails and two gorse hedges before taking the second road double. The last jump was in Mr Connor’s paddock, where the “ kill ” took place. In the absence of Mr R. Grecnslade Mr J. Dick acted as deputy-master. Interested spectators included Mrs J. Talbot (nee Miss M. Statham) and old and enthusiastic members of the club—Mr \V. Duff (Balclutha, owner of Zambon) and Mr J. Oliver (a member of the Birchwood Hunt).
