CONVERTING TO MOTORS
According to reports from Johannesburg. mining activities in the Rand have led to such developments that the
railway authorities have decided to convert all their rojyi transport to motor power. Just wnat this involves is shown by the different units powered by internal combustion engines which they will put into service in and around Johannesburg during this present year. The list consists of 51 mechanical horses, 20 five-ton lorries, 17 heavy tractors, five light tractors. 100 six-ton trucks and trailers, and 100 three-ton trucks.
