Why pay for 18 horsepower and get the« performance of eight? There are many ways of rounding up the missing horses. A number of cars are being held back by such things as faulty tappet adjustment, tight brakes, extra low pressure tyres, late ignition timing, and carbonised exhaust systems. Very wide valve clearances’ are specified in certain late .model engines, a point which mechanics might easily overlook. A worn timing chain will cause a Jag in valve and ignition timing sufficient to affect engine power output. A new chain is then required
