MORNINGTON BOWLING CLUB

TWENTY-SIXTH ANNUAL MEETING The twenty-sixth annual meeting of this club was held last _ Wednesday evening, upwards of 30 being present. The retiring president, Mr D. Cunningham, in the course of his address, referred to the loss the club had sustained through the death of Mr Harry Wood, a past president, also to the deaths of two well-known past members, ,Mr R. M'Meeking and Mr C. Notman. . . . Last season’s club activities had seen an increase in membership and a successful season, the club ranking in good position in the Saturday and four-nnk competitions. _ The requirement of the centre executive for the number of rinks for the Saturday competition to be entered so long before club’s opening day meant that last season 16 players were “on the bank ” every week, which caused serious dissatisfaction and certainly difficulty to the selector. He congratulated the ladies’ section upon winning the Stuart Banner, and referred m eulogistic terms to the excellent and whole-hearted service for 15 years of Mr J. L. Smith, secretary, who did not seek re-election, and to the valuable services of Mr Watson M'Ghie, treasurer, who also wished to resign from this office. The position disclosed by the_ annual accounts, was, said Mr Cunningham, very satisfactory, and there was every prospect of a successful season this year. Loss of subscription by bad debt had not been heard of in this club for very many years. Prize-winners for last season were:— Championship singles, W. Watson; runner-up, R. S. J. M’Donald; championship doubles, J. L. Smith and B. Kirkland; handicap singles, L. J. T. Ireland; club doubles, R. Liddell and C. Hamilton; colt’s prize (Hobbs Memorial Cup), B. Kirkland. Election of office-bearers resulted as under:—President, Mr R. S. J. M'Donald; vice-president, Mr C. Turner; committee —Messrs L. J. Ireland, C. Foley, C. Hamilton, D. M'Connell, J. Clarke, R. Morrison, with Mr D. Cunningham; sole selector, Mr W. Brown; Ties Committee, Mr L. J. T. Ireland; secretary, Mr R. Liddell; treasurer, Mr B. Kirkland. It was decided to support the remit of the Dunedin Club as to the system of scoring used in 1934-35.
