ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
KNOCKED DOWN BY f CAR. John Coll, a married man of 41 years, residing at Clydevale, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 8.40 p.m. on Sunday suffering from injuries to- the face received as a result of being knocked down by a motor car in Princes street in the vicinity of the Stock Exchange. BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR. The body of Albert Romulus Spiers, a retired greengrocer, aged 59, of Onehunga, who had been missing from his house since - 4 a.m, on Saturday, was found in the Manukau Harbour yesterday. It was first seen at mid-day by a pedestrian, who notified the police. A sergeant and. a constable chartered a launch and recovered the body in a heavy sea. Spiers, who had been in failing health, leaves a widow and grown-up family A later Association, message states that a verdict of found drowned, there being N no evidence to show whether death, accidental or otherwise, was returned by the coroner (Mr Sutherland) at the inquest at Onehunga concerning Albert Romulus Shearr (58), a retired greengrocer, whose body was found- floating in Manukau Harbour yesterday. Alice Mary Shears, his widow, said her husband was recently discharged from hospital and had become depressed. He had never threatened to take his life. COLLISION WITH TAXI CAB. A fatal collision between a motor cyclist and a taxi cab occurred about 1 o’clock on Saturday afternoon in Auckland. The cyclist, Mr George William Mercer, aged 44, a cabinet maker, suffered severe head injuries and died in Auckland Hospital on Saturday night. UNDERVIEWER’S COLLAPSE. A Greymouth Association message states that William Downes (58) collapsed and died in the James mine office at Rapahoe this morning. Deceased was an underviewer, and had not recently been attended by a doctor, so that an inquest is_ probable. He is survived by the widow and three children.
