GERMAN ARMS FOR CHINA
PROTEST BY JAPAN BREACH OF VERSAILLES TREATY i Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright . LONDON, July 4. The Tokio correspondent of ‘ Th® Times ’ says that the Japanese Ambassador in Berlin has protested to th® German regarding a* agreement between China and Germany for the sale of arms to China, pointing out that the agreement conflicts with the Versailles Treaty, and is likely t® impair Japan’s existing friendly relations with Germany, especially as Japan is opposed to the sale of arms to China. The German Foreign Office has replied that the agreement was only intended to promote trade, between China and Germany. Japanese correspondents in China declare that under the agreement Germany undertakes to provide China with a large quantity of munitions, including anti-aircraft guns, mortars, and tanks, accepting payment over a period of from four to six years in raw materials.
